Today is the first day of the new job and an end to big changes. I have worked for the company before and can assure you that between the shifts and the hour commute there is not much left of the day. I am afraid that the Blogs will be a little thin for the next several weeks as I will be in training and comming up to speed on new products quite challenging for the old brain.

The new skirt that is essential for sandblasting and welding is begining to take shape and makes the world of difference inside as well. So far other than perhaps $50 in Mennonite lumber and some drywall screws everything else is recycled from the last 4 years. I will put another layer of 6mm plastic over the sun room which will keep plenty of light under the boat. At least here it will be dry and there will be no wind making welding far easier. There will be a small work bench under the stairs and I expect I will end up painting the plywood dodger remains white just so it does not look quite so trashy.

I heard from John Bachelor on Joy B who ran into Chris in Oswego both of them on the way south. I guess my time inn Belize last year was my break for the decade as this years upgrades and the bottom will have me counting pennies for many a year. I did get most of the winter cover finished with maybe one more full day until it is ready for snow.

Haul out is in full swing at the Marina and there are three or four boat a day seeing the hard with the crane due on the weekend for the big boats.

I will stop by the libary and upload the latest Blog today and hopefully feet at least another bag full of purge sorted from the storage pile. Other than that I am working on an interesting heating cost comparison that would apply to any boat as I have been studding the real cost of heating as I decide what to do for this winter.

I am enjoying being in training and sitting at a desk, all clean and comfy. The job lacks the shear joy of restoring an antique boat, but the paycheck is comforting and my body is liking it.

Saturday was the scheduled crane haul out day, for big boats and the place was jumping. The weather offered up its take by serving up high winds from the south west that reached gale velocity by 15:00 hours. All afternoon the crowd waited for the scheduled crane due at 16:00, and the wind built. I got the final strapping on the skirt and a test blow to check my work as well as a bit of service trouble shooting.

Shortly after noon, I gave up and went to the shop to do a bit more sorting and try to integrate some of the heavier tools I brought back from up north. The little garden did ok and I have several months of my own veggies which will fit in with trying to take better care of my body. Rufus and Clyde were deep into the supervision aspect all morning. I am glad that Rufus has a friend even if Clyde is probably a bad influence as he is fearless.

Once it was determined that the crane lift would be postponed until next week Rick and Al set sail for an overnighter at Main Duck. It is so nice to watch a good seaman put a classic to sail. It to get set but then they found the groove and were off under a full mizzen and jib. Perhaps 20 minutes passed before they slipped past Morrision Point to disappear into the distance.

Arthur showed up to check on Maracooga which was a nice surprise and we ended the day with a BBQ of some excellent lam chops. Arthur had bought a set of very nice water tanks for his off grid cabin’s water system. Very interesting as figuring out how to deal with a shower on the hard being the greatest challenge I face to attempt living aboard on the hard, as it has been made clear to me there will be no facilities available.

I know to risk keeping water on board that there will have to be R21 at least between the tank and the hull. All the lockers on Defiance are built like fine cabinetry and have full liners meaning I cannot get between the tank and the aft watertight bulkhead without removing the entire top of the bureau and snaking in from the top. The starboard tank will not be so bad as it is fairly easy to lift the berth top, and I know there is lots of room between it and the hull.

Tom and Bev dropped their lines and headed to Belleville today with a fair wind behind Blue Puffin.

Chenoa is out of the water after finding yet more issues from prior service. I cannot believe what people get away with and yet I starve while doing "IT" right. Arthur made a visit to put Maracooga away before returning to the north.

The marina is wrapping up and I know the time that I can procrastinate is drawing to a close. All is peaceful for now but training for the new job takes most of my attention as islogicall as what I need is no risk cash flow to get through this haul out.
