Thursday marked the final steps in the purging of 60 odd years of life. With the exception of tools and boat equipment I am packed down to 6 Rubbermaid containers containing the final threads of my life up to now. I probably killed the shredder by trying to chew up the old photo albums and if someone wants to look at boring pictures of the last 60 years they are welcome to. There are two boxes of good reading boat books and entertainment VCR's for the Waupoos Marina boaters libary along with my "Wooden Boat" magazine collection. I am sure some visiting boater will have a comfy evening curled up waiting out weather or just passing time with them.
Smiths Bay is nearly frozen over and the channel is full of forming ice. Once the wind stops it will freeze.
No matter my disagreement with marina management may be, you the visiting cruiser are my folk, and supporting the "Free Cruiser" is the express goal of Cruising Canada.
Rufus has now settled down, just in time to move again. However he has settled into a largely upstairs existance and other than reporting scuttling and thuds upstairs Bends says she never sees him during the day. When I come home he goes to work on his toys and love requiring far more cuddling than he ever did aboard the boat. The stairs and the widow are his favorite hang out followed closely by the upstairs bathroom (unfinished) closet where the top shelf is window height and he is tucked away out of sight.
Sweetie came out to see me Thursday AM when I did the marina check, the poor little thing was looking a little thin and was extremely happy to see me dispensing far more kitty love than is her normal scardy cat interaction. Poor little thing. The pictures failed as is normal with this Cannon.I will try to get her and Mom to move aboard Defiance where I can leave more food as I think that the human smell and convoluted access will deter the coons from raiding. Next decent day I am to the marina I will try to move Sweetie aboard as she seems far more willing to let me pick her up and cuddle which she has not done for over a year and a half since she spent the winter with Rufus and I aboard Defiance. Once I get her aboard I think she will remember and relax. All convoluted and probably not the best use of my time but I am a hopeless lover of feral felines.

The commute in takes me over the "Bay Bridge" at dawn.
I get a bad feeling over Rufus and my own security the deeper we get into the impending move. There is far too much concern being vented over the landlords behavior than energy spent on dealing with the "what is now". Each day I hear more changes and conditions of moving to the new place. All I want is a place to park me and Rufus until spring.

I did my ritual marina visit and fed the wild cats although I did not see Sweetie it happens some times. I focused in and changed all the fuel filters for the Espar so that whenever I get time there is reliable heat.
In reality the maintainance is pretty good once a year you change the filters and you have no problems. I suspect it is because so much gets stirred up during summer use that the fine Espar final filter get plugged far easier than when sitting. Oh Well the curses of moving your house.
December 15, 2007
The weather has moved in and I am limited to Libary Internet access as there is no other access available. The housing situation is sliding into chaos with the crunch over the holiday period. The snow is falling heavily now and it is time for me to begin the next phase
Sunday, December 16

This is the first big pasting of the year. Blizzard warnings are out and the snow is falling hard. I however grew up out west and a little snow is only fun. The days journey was quite successful with Mom showing up at the appointed feeding spot for breakfast and a can of Friskies.

After spotting the kitty paw prints on the stairs it was no surprise to watch a black and white kitty bum disappear over the edge of the cat door step which undoubtedly belonged to Sweetie. This is good as the aft cabin is staying quite warm and will be a far better place for my loved friend. This is a much better deal and I feel relaxed knowing that she hasfiguredd it out and moved back aboard where I can do much more to protect her and see her through the winter.
Christmas is comming and here are a couple of Wellington churches for your Holiday cards. Click thumbnail for 1200 pixel wide large images

The weather is deteriorating further and we may still be glad that I picked up the emergency heaters.

And finally a cat report.Rufus is checking out the packing and Serendipity will have a good feed for the storm.
Central Canada will be digging out Monday as a massive winter storm that battered Ontario and Quebec moved eastward overnight. This one brought the promised conditions and will set the tone for this winter. As I fought with the heavy snow on the drive I was thankful for a secure roof and knowing Defiance was secure and will provide the wild cats a home for the winter.

The winter storm pummeled Prince Edward County on Sunday and like a true westerner I made my appointed rounds blizzard or no blizzard.
Tonight I sign the lease for the "little apartment" and begin yet another Christmas move. I am looking forward to having my own space again no matter how good a housekeeper Brenda is. Long term I need a place where Rufus can exist longer term with no anti-cat issues. Living with the red shag carpet that exists in the new digs will be another matter, and will test my resolve not to abuse the credit card more. On the other hand stability is close to in reach just a few more weeks to keep the balls in the air.

It is done I have secured a small one bedroom apartment 12 kilometers from work which is the top floor of a house that has a private entrance and shared yard usage for Rufus. Shades of college as this is far from high end but it will work.

The wild cats Sweetie and Serendipity have moved aboard Defiance that sleeps peacefully in a snow bound yard.
