Belleville BUOY Q54 44°08.96':N 77°22.83':W

The Narrows lies to the west of Deseronto where the Bay of Quinte narrows to less than a mile.Ox Point marks the NW end of the narrows and is low and wooded with the ruins of an abandoned cement plant close to the east point.

Belleville is a Customs Reporting Station is West of Big Bay where the Bay of Quinte narrows for a mile then opens again forming yet another bay.



When approaching Belleville watch for Minnie Blakely Shoal 44 ° 09.00' N , 77 ° 18.00' W is 0.1 miles south of the entrance point of the Narrows with a depth of 3 feet and is marked by the Minnie Blakely Shoal Light Q 52 (467) which is located slightly south of the shoal.

Belleville lays at the west end of this bay at the mouth of the Moira River. Belleville is the largest population municipality between Kingston and Oshawa. Belleville provides all the facilities of a major area with an airport, hospital, and a train station which is on the main line between Montreal and Toronto.

Belleville Norris Whitney Bridge

To the west of Belleville is the Norris Whitney Bridge lies SW of the harbor and connects Prince Edward County to the mainland . The most noticeable structure when approaching from the water is the semicircular apartment building on the east bank of the river. As you get closer you can easily see the red roofed marina building on the east side of the harbor. The outer most concrete wharf is 499 feet long and 7 feet high with an end section 170 feet long. Recent depths were reported as 7 to 13 feet.

Belleville Light (470) is located near the outer end of the breakwater extending from the end section of the public wharf shown as an elevation of 30 feet from a white circular tower. CAUTION there is shallow water close to the end of the rubble breakwater and you should stay to the marked channel when entering the marina. Victoria Park Marina building pict.to right.

Victoria Park shelters the basin of the Victoria Park Marina and the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club
{ Bay Of Quinte YC BQYC Website } .Belleville's shopping area is about a ten minute walk from the lakeside. Most of the major stores and banks are located on Front Street, while a large grocery store and the liquor store are both to be found on Dundas Street E. For divers Canadian Sport Sub is a couple of blocks east in a small plaza. If you are there on a saturday you should consider stopping by the farmers market where local farmers and ranchers bring their produce.

Belleville Yacht Club

Eating out in Belleville presents no problem, as there are restaurants to suit all tastes. The fully licensed Wheelhouse Restaurant is in the Morch marina, for those longing for a meal with French flavour there is the Limestone Cafe on Front Street. On Bridge Street E. is the well know Paulo's tattoria, famed for their wood-oven pizzas, and for those wishing a gourmet meal there is Dinkle's right next door to Paulo's.



Downtown Belleville

For those looking for a good deal on fish we would recommend the Lobster Trap which is north in Pinicle Street opposite the Court House. There are of course branches of many of the fast-food chains spread throughout the town. For those of you who like curry or oriental food we highly recommend the Oriental Wok which is three blocks east of the bridge on Dundas Street. The Oriental Wok features himmalian cooking and an extensive and authentic menu.

Belleville Town Hall

A town town map, showing all points of interest, including the Hastings county museum,the restored City Hall as well as the pride of Belleville 'Corby Gardens' is available at the Meyer's Pier marina or the Chamber of Commerce on East Moira Street.

There are many places to explore on the south shore opposite Belleville providing you pick your way carefully using the charts.
