Toronto Outer HarborToronto Outer Harbour is located on the Leslie Street Spit, somewhat removed from downtown. The harbour itself is an excellent facility with room for larger vessels. The artificial harbour created by the Leslie St spit is low- lying with scrubby bush now beginning to appear. |
The entire area is identifiable by the power station directly north of the inner basin with its tall stack and water outfall forming the NE corner of the basin. To reach the outer harbour one enters an outlying commercial area either from the east along Leslie Street or the west over the Cherry Street bridge. When approaching the eastern gap and main entrance to Toronto inner harbour, the outer harbour facilities lie to the east before you enter the eastern gap. Toronto Outer Harbour Marina is on the south side of the spit as you enter the bay with the entrance being behind an old freighter wheelhouse at the end of the point. Perhaps the most important feature of this marina is that it is purely a commercial NO HASSLE place where big and capable cruising vessels may berth for long periods , and is within reach of the Toronto core. There are no restrictions on outside contractors and plenty of room to manoeuver. All in all this is a true world destination cruising port at a reasonable rate. On the north side of the Outer Harbour are the Toronto Multihull and Sailing CLub [ Toronto Multihull Cruising Club Website ] along with the wind surfing clubs. There is a popular older day use park located at the south end of Cherry Street where the windsurfers like to launch and you can walk easily to the breakwater on the east side of the Eastern Gap should you choose to watch the traffic. The Port of Toronto terminal lies just to the north of the Eastern Gap and occupies an impressive area along Cherry street. The discount Knob Hill supermarket is found several blocks north along Cherry Street. |
